General questions

The tool uses a sensor system to measure soil volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced by microbial activity. It effectively ‘smells’ the soil’s biological signature, allowing farmers and agronomists to perform a quick, cost-effective, and complete soil health assessment in the field without sending samples to a laboratory.

The soil health sensor technology provides information about 12+ soil health indicators, covering biological, physical, and chemical factors, within minutes. Since being able to interpret soil health depends on understanding the balance of these elements, the technology empowers users to make informed decisions about crops and treatments without the costs or delays associated with traditional soil testing.

A major barrier to regenerative farming is the lack of accessible and affordable soil health testing alternatives. The PES Technologies tool addresses this, providing farmers and agronomists with a simpler, cost-effective way to understand and improve soil health. Our soil biology metrics align with academic standards, offering reliable insights without the hefty price tag. For farmers and agronomists committed to regenerative practices, our technology enables more effective and accurate soil health monitoring, supporting more sustainable, resilient farming systems.

During groundbreaking discussions with NIAB (the National Institute of Agricultural Botany), we uncovered a crucial insight – the distinctive scent of soil contains valuable information about its health. The concept sparked our journey to develop our soil health sensor technology, which is the first of its kind.

It’s currently trained on arable, mineral soils, but permanent pasture and peat are in development. It’s not currently suitable for analysing your slurry, compost, raised bed vegetable gardens, or strawberries grown in coir.

5-15cm. For best results, collect multiple cores from one location and mix them together to create  homogenised sample, ensuring that your analysis will reflect the overall soil condition.

Yes, but you will have to enter correct what3words locations or find the testing location on a satellite map to accurately record results. Remember to store your soils in a fridge at 4C until you are ready to test them.

Yes, you can select multiple tests and then export the data as a pdf or csv file to easily compare results.

While our probe provides valuable insights, we do not guarantee its accuracy as a standalone analysis method. We recommend verifying its results against your existing sampling approach before relying solely on probe data for decision-making.

The system achieves 80% accuracy or better on all indicators, which is the benchmark set by industry. We put soils with laboratory results through our system and compare PES results with those known results.

The PES system uses advanced machine learning to continuously refine its ability to assess soil conditions with precision. As new AI models emerge multiple times each year, our technology evolves constantly, delivering increasingly accurate and up-to-date soil insights.

You can still test, but you will get your results later. Contact our support team if you have concerns about the lack of phone signal in your area.
