Meet the team

As a co-founder of PES Technologies, Dr. Jim Bailey has now taken on the combined role of CEO and CTO, allowing Andrej Porovic to focus on business development. An accomplished experimental physicist, Jim earned their PhD from Imperial College London and honed their expertise at the UK’s National Physical Laboratory. They laid the scientific foundation for the company’s revolutionary sensor consumable design.

When they are not working, Jim enjoys cultivating their flourishing tropical garden.

From late 2019 to mid-2025, Andrej Porovic led PES Technologies as CEO, guiding the company through its commercialisation and successfully raising £6 million in funding. With the company’s growth and product launch, the CEO role evolved to require a more operational focus. To address this, Andrej transitioned to the dedicated role of Business Development Director, a natural fit given his background in project management across nanotech, medtech, and web development.

When he’s not leading business development, the self-proclaimed spreadsheet enthusiast can be found losing to his son in their competitive board game and chess matches.

Steve joined PES Technologies in September 2021, bringing a wealth of experience as a Technical Director who thrives where technology meets business. With a knack for operational strategy and commercial insight, Steve is passionate about empowering teams to deliver innovative, impactful solutions that are both technically brilliant and commercially sound. His goal is always to ensure that the team are building great things, efficiently and effectively, by fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. Away from work, Steve is an avid dinghy sailor and most weekends you will find him racing on a lake.

With over a decade of experience in software development across diverse industries, Julian’s speciality is creating machine learning-driven solutions to tackle complex challenges. His expertise is backed by an extensive academic background. Outside of the office, Julian enjoys spending quality time with his one-year-old son as well as gaming, and gardening.

A seasoned agriculturalist with a global perspective, Michael began his career managing farms in the UK and Eastern Europe, then set up an animal feed business in Romania, before managing a large animal health business in South Africa. After returning to the UK, he and his wife invested in PES Technologies where he now drives commercial strategy. A former rugby player, Michael and his family remain keen Leicester Tigers supporters — despite living in rival territory in Northamptonshire.

Liam leads PES’s efforts in production and product improvement, drawing on a solid foundation in manufacturing and supplier management. Before joining PES Technologies in January 2024, he gained valuable experience in the off- grid solar industry as an NPI and Manufacturing Engineer, alongside roles in quality and electronics manufacturing. Outside of work, Liam’s love for collecting vinyl and playing card and board games keeps him busy.

Dom is an experienced agricultural and environmental researcher with a focus on sustainable land management. His work spans both UK and international projects, addressing critical challenges like water and nutrient efficiency, soil health, and biodiversity through practical, policy-informed research. A passionate advocate for the British outdoors, Dom champions the conservation and regeneration of ecosystems through agroecological methods. Away from work, he’s an avid homebrewer, having led public workshops and produced small-batch commercial brews, and enjoys playing bass guitar, and following sports like rugby, WRC, and curling.

Charlie’s diverse career path has taken him from agriculture to law enforcement, and the firearms industry. He started out working in agriculture, before spending time as a police officer, then moving into the commercial side of the firearms sector as a Sales Manager. Each role has helped him develop strong skills in communication, sales, problem-solving, and building relationships, skills he now uses to support PES’s customers. Outside work, Charlie supports Northampton Saints in Rugby and Northampton Town in football, keeps a variety of livestock, and breeds rare poultry.

Alex has a strong background in soil science and soil health from her degree in BSc Geography (Hons) and MSc Environment and Development from Lancaster University. Her undergrad dissertation explored the relationship between microbial biomass, elevation and Q₁₀ respiration metabolic rate. Through her MDS graduate scheme, she has worked with food production companies and developed a keen interest in sustainable food production. In her spare time, Alex enjoys playing rugby for her local team and exploring the countryside on pub walks.

Gary is a software developer with a passion for building robust, intuitive applications that make a real difference for users. A problem-solver at heart, he enjoys solving complex issues with clean, efficient code and takes pride in creating software that’s both functional and user-friendly. Outside of tech, Gary coaches kickboxing, helping others build confidence, discipline, and strength. He’s also a die-hard Nottingham Forest fan who has cheered them on through the highs and the lows.

Matt is a skilled manufacturing professional with over 16 years of experience and a strong background in team leadership and training. He brings a creative, design-informed approach to problem-solving and is passionate about continuous improvement and collaboration. His excellent communication skills, developed through leadership positions, academic presentations, and more than 20 years in community theatre, enable him to effectively engage teams and present confidently to diverse audiences.
